Frontman Ilhan Ersahin, one of the rare moguls of the New York City underground scene through his influential club and record label Nublu, has spread his New York energy throughout the world. Whether jamming with The Red Hot Chili Peppers in São Paulo, featuring Bugge Wesseltoft at Blue Note Tokyo, or performing elegant oriental sets with Turkish gypsies in European concert halls, Ersahin continues to transcend musical boundaries with masterful eclecticism.
“Mahalle” – the Turkish word for neighborhood – captures the essence of Istanbul Sessions’ genre-crossing artistry. Since 2008, the band has ignited stages across the globe from New York to Istanbul, Paris to São Paulo, London to Skopje, posing questions that challenge musical categorization: Is this really jazz? Doesn’t this sound like a rock band? Thursday’s bill was total magic, as tends to be the case at @nublunyc , but this night was different. So much family and friends in the house from near and far to witness a SP-NY collaboration long in the making.

Both bands killed it! @sp_nydiscoclube and @zenigro are super stars. @ilhanersahin got in on the act with a proper jazz freak out session w the drummer, managing to circle back to the original song effortlessly.

Written at the height of the pandemic, "Like A Constellation" emerges as a sprawling cosmic disco epic that crystallized in the band's Williamsburg studio sanctuary. This ethereal journey took shape while Daniel was simultaneously crafting This is Brian Jackson, JKriv's "Try Again", and the band's own Burning Bridges EP—a testament to their relentless creative momentum even in isolation.
The track showcases Juliet's otherworldly vocals floating above Monika's synthesizer landscapes, with Daniel anchoring the cosmic groove on drums and Hammond organ while overseeing production. They're joined by Jason Kriveloff (JKriv) weaving rhythm guitar textures and session legend Binky Brice delivering his signature bass lines—the same hands that helped craft Billy Ocean's "Caribbean Queen."

The pandemic has turned all lives upside down all over the world, there is no doubt that no one is unaffected by this situation… But a group of people has been affected much more deeply!

Their voices were muffled, their hands were tied, their ears were deafened, their souls became stagnant… The life veins of people, who interpret all our emotions, at every moment of our lives, who make “that music” right next to us, even in the middle of our minds, are cut off… Consciously or unconsciously; somehow they were forgotten, or even worse, ignored. Some of them were killed not by the virus, but by this oblivion.

Two musicians got together to remind this fact and be the voice of the forgotten ones. World-renowned jazz musician İlhan Erşahin and one of the brightest names of the global electronic music scene, Oceanvs Orientalis, dedicate 'Pire', the first single of their long-term work, to "all musicians and music world workers whose lives have drastically changed during the pandemic"...

Directed by Ferit Katipoğlu, the film depicts the current landscape of the forgotten musicians, the secret architects of the joyful days of Istanbul, who suddenly find themselves pushed aside. Do you remember the indispensable characters of the most colorful scenes of our city who say "We are not dead yet, but this cannot be called life"?
