ILHAN ERSAHIN’S WONDERLAND FEATURING HUSNU SENLENDIRICI -ASK-
New York based Swedish-Turkish Saxophone player and clarinet virtuoso Hüsnü Şenlendirici got together once again with their master level musician friends Alp Ersönmez (bass), Volkan Öktem (drums), Izzet Kızıl (percussion) and performed 4 songs for a warm, friendly live session at their two favorite spots in Istanbul: terrace of Yakup 2 Restaurant (where they used to have their memorable dinners before concerts at the city’s legendary club Babylon); and terrace of Büyük Londra Otel (which we can call “Ersahin’s home in Istanbul”, with its authentic spirit and beautiful view). Since then the videos reached a wide interest on Youtube. As we all are globally locked down homes, the band got back to the tapes, cleaned the mixes and invites you now to these beautiful terraces for some fresh air.
Wonderland is the openhearted and vigilant reflection and expression of İlhan Erşahin on his ties with Istanbul. Saxophone, bass, drums and keyboards as jazz’ integral objects and Turkish music’s milestones kanun, darbuka and clarinet are cleverly unified in the rather softened digital milieu of Wonderland. The outcome is universal, pensive and provoking, futuristic, eclectic, but mostly, elegant. Wonderland, recorded two studio albums: their self-titled release featured the unconventional voices of new generation Istanbul vocalists like Nil Karaibrahimgil, Bora Uzar and Lara Di Lara (that all now are established singers in Turkish pop and alternative scenes), that complete this magical togetherness. Their second album “The Other Side” had a wider vision and featured international special guests as Jane Birkin, Gilberto Gil and Seyyal Taner. WONDERLAND feat.
